Easter exhibition report 2017
Another successful event was held in the High School theatre with nearly 140 exhibits. Over the six days, 483 people visited the exhibition and over 20 pieces of work were sold.
380 votes were cast for the ‘People’s Choice’ and the results are as follows
First place with 28 votes Phil Holmes ‘Goatfell from North Goatfell’
Second place with 26 votes was Janelle Paton’s ‘Harambe’
Third place also went to Janelle Paton for her evocative ‘Homeless’ with 23 votes
Fourth place with 20 votes was Patsy Keen’s ‘Horse’
In joint fifth place were Morag Campbell’s amusing ‘West Highland Banner’ and John Earle’s fascinating lesson in perspective, ‘Room with a view’, both with17 votes
John Earle scored again with his ‘Brodick Shops’ with 16 votes. It had people walking around in front of it to make the shops move!
Joint eighth place went to Sally Brookes for her ‘Lobsters’ and Yvonne Bailley for her ‘Sea Horses’ both receiving 13 votes
In tenth place was Janelle again with her ‘Despair’ with 12 votes.
We give a prize to the artist in first place which is Phil Holmes, but special mention should be made of Janelle Paton, who was exhibiting for the first time with AVA and gained 63 votes over all!
Thank you to all of you who voted as it gives tangible encouragement to artists. And of course thank you to all the artists for their amazing work. Keep at it up, as our Summer exhibition is at the end of July in Lochranza.

The exhibition will run from 10.30 am to 5 pm each day.
The entry form is enclosed. You may exhibit seven pieces of work in total with a maximum of FOUR hanging items in any category .
1. Painting or Drawing 2. Ceramics, Sculpture, Mosaics 3. Textiles and Creative Stitching 4. Woodwork or Basketwork 5. Photograpy 6. Other Crafts (Jewellery, Beading, Miniatures etc)

Entries must please be in by Friday 11th May – It will not be possible to include entries received after this date in the Catalogue.
Entry to this exhibition is free and exclusive to Arran Visual Arts members. Subscriptions (£15 per person) are now due. If you haven’t renewed and wish to exhibit, please do so now. Download a membership form from the web-site and send it with your subscription, to Sheridan Waldon at address above
Handing in of artwork is on Saturday 26th May between 4 pm and 5 pm.
On arrival at the hall, please unwrap your artwork and attach the AVA Exhibition labels, which will be there ready for you. The “hanging committee” will spend most of Friday hanging your work. If your artwork is to be hung PLEASE make sure that each piece has “D” rings and cord/wire. Otherwise you entry/ies may NOT be included in the exhibition. Please also ensure that you label each piece with your name, title and price, as an extra precaution!
There will be a private view evening for you and your guests from 7.30 pm when wine and soft drinks will be available for the donation of £1 per person.
Collection day will be on Friday 1st June from 4 pm – 5 pm. No collection of unsold items before closing time.
All works are exhibited at the artist’s own risk. AVA will take no responsibility for any items that are damaged or stolen.
There are no arrangements for storage of artworks, so it is imperative that unsold work is collected from the hall on this date.
There will be a “People’s Choice” vote again with a small prize for the winner. Public entry to the exhibition will be free, but there will be a donation box. Sale of work: Cash is always preferred but the artists will carry the risk if cheques are not honoured. A donation of 20% from any sales would be much appreciated.
Family Workshops on Monday28th May. Do bring children and grandchildren along for these activities. We do need an accompanying adult present. If you would like to help let Jan know on 700249.

Please label your art works with: Name, Address, Tel No, Title, Medium and Price (as a safety measure), and if they are to be hung, please ensure “D” rings and cord/wire are firmly attached.
Please note we cannot accept liability for theft or damage. We will of course try our best to ensure that this does not happen. The exhibition will be staffed at all times.
I would/ would not like to sell some of my own cards. They should be individually wrapped and priced. All the same price please and a round number e.g.£2 or £2.50
